Biography
Sophia Averza is a sophomore from Columbia, MD studying Architecture at University of Maryland-College Park. Her interests include painting, drawing, graphic design, and cooking. Her painting and drawing is typically from observation captures the details of a subject that go unnoticed to the blind eye. By attention to detail, she aims to show her audience these unique characteristics. Her love of graphic design stems from her desire to create things beyond reality, to combine images and designs that wouldn't could not be typically mixed together. With cooking, she likes to combine different spices and flavor combinations to creates various flavor profiles. She plans on minoring in construction management and continuing pursuing her BA Architecture degree. In the future, she wants to work in construction management, renovating/building houses, or designing the interiors of homes.

As a College Park Arts Scholar, Sophia intends to explore her research interests through her culminating Capstone project to be completed in her sophomore year. She wants to learn about what opportunities there are that utilize art. She also looks forward to attending field trips to explore the arts within her new community of College Park, MD. As part of her university experience, she plans to become involved with Lakeland STARS, a service project affiliated with College Park Scholars, where she hopes to engage young students in active learning opportunities. Her academic goals include developing a senior thesis that demonstrates mastery in Marketing and Communications and graduating prepared to enter the workforce.
